Great Salt Lake & Kinnecott Copper Mining Corporation, Salt Lake City, Utah
On Saturday, we took a tour of the Great Salt Lake and the Kinnecott Copper Mines. No one has ever drown in the Great Salt Lake, due to the salinity of the water. There are no fish in the Lake. The only living creature are Bryne Shrimp that the seagulls fly in from California and eat. Oh, Believe it or not, the California Seagull is their state bird. There are tons of big spiders who hang out and eat the flies that swarm around the lake that also eat the bryne shrimp. That was the hi-lite of the lake. The only boats on the lake were Sail Boats.
Our next stop was the Kinnecott Copper Mine. This is an open pit mine. The size of the mine is beyond belief and the big equipment used there is HUGE in comparisom to the normal size of equipment. I've enclosed a picture of Joey standing in front of the size of tires used on the trucks that haul the big rocks out of the mine and to the grinder. It is projected that another fifty years of copper mining will be done here. This mine is the largest producing copper mine in the world. It produces twenty five percent of all copper products.
After our tour, we ended our day at the "Red Iquana" Mexican restaurant. This restaurant was featured on Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives. After dinner of Burritos, fish tacos and a margarita. We called it quits and walked back to our Campground.
Hope you enjoy the pics
